OUR MISSION
Mwasi is a growing, Black-centered global community providing sanctuaries of resuscitation throughout the world where healing, growth, and development foster positive self-perception, as we become our most powerful selves beyond racism and NOTIONS OF white supremacy.

MWASI GLOBAL COMMUNITY

Mwasi, meaning rebel in Swahili, is a nod to rebellious communities of Africans all over the world, where people resist, exist independently, create alternative ways of living, and provide safe spaces for their members.

The Mwasi Global Community is not simply a dream or an idea; it is a reality. Mwasi produces life-changing experiences for individuals, families, digital nomads, and workforce members seeking adventure, rejuvenation, serenity, relaxation, and the opportunity to reimagine what life has to offer. People from all over the world are seeking us out to experience Morocco through our lens. Retreat leaders from coast-to-coast in the United States have booked with us through 2023 and beyond. This growing community now owns a property that will aid in establishing roots, deepen the connection to Morocco, the Moroccan culture, and it’s people; while making space for ourselves to thrive instead of simply surviving. To live in community as neighbors and not gentrifiers.

LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDER

Hello My Global Community,

Mwasi Global Community grew from my first effort to create alternative community space with the Black Freedom Colony, a temporary expatriation opportunity to Tulum, Mexico. People asked, “What is the Black Freedom Colony?” At the time I had no idea. It was an impulse to provide an alternative to the US amid our domestic racialized terror, mid-COVID reality. Through experience and real time, the vision has shaped itself from a community, to a movement.

The Mwasi Global Community is a collective of people of African descent, choosing to live outside the United States, temporarily and permanently, in community of other Black people and families, in an effort to rebuild our village in pursuit of liberation. The ultimate goal is to create an emotional safe space, to learn, unlearn, heal and re-build our futures together.

As we move forward with the Mwasi Creative Community there are opportunities for one week retreats and time in our co-living space. It is a moment to slow down, without distractions and grow closer to your family, your fellow participants and yourself within a community of support. Therapy, healing workshops, farming, cooking, exploring and excursions are programmed over the journey. Together we relearn how community can positively function within our own values and principles.
